The impressive new LG G4 is available from all five major carriers worldwide and in the United States. It arrived on Verizon on June 4, but we quickly learned that the Verizon LG G4 was surprisingly missing multiple essential features.
LG’s latest smartphone is a very capable, large 5.5-inch device with one of the best cameras on any smartphone, running the latest Android 5.1 Lollipop and more. Even on Verizon Wireless, the LG G4 is one of the best Android phones available today, but for some reason many features are missing.
On April 28, the LG G4 was announced and launched last week by AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint, and US Cellular. Now that owners have bought the device, we’re getting lots of questions and lots of complaints from those at Verizon.
Before we get started, it’s worth noting that everything mentioned below is software-related and nothing is missing about the LG G4’s core core experience. It still has a great 5.5-inch display, a stunning camera, 32GB of storage with a removable battery, micro SD slot, and more.
Users who have finished and hung up on the Verizon LG G4 will love everything it has to offer, just as we loved our unit, which we reviewed in full at the link below. That said, read on to learn about the software Verizon has pulled out of the G4, features included in other carrier editions.
There are actually six main features missing from the Verizon LG G4, and maybe more as we continue to dig. These are the features we have on our international version and the AT&T model I’ve been using for the past two weeks. The biggest is the multi-user mode, which Google announced with Android 4.4 KitKat.
As you can see above, Verizon LG G4 is missing six features that almost all other LG G4 users can enjoy. A few are not so important, others are something I use on a daily basis. I have received numerous complaints from users in multiple emails and more and more complaints are detected on AndroidCentral. forums. The lock screen is still somewhat customizable, but most of the options and controls are missing.
Multiple user accounts and Smart Settings are two things I use every day on my LG G4. Having one account for myself, another for work, and a third for kids is extremely convenient and has been available on Android since Android 4.4 KitKat. For whatever reason, this is missing on the Verizon LG G4. Then there’s also the smart settings that let you automate and turn certain features like location, WiFi, Bluetooth, and more based on location or your habits. We loved the Smart Settings in our LG G4 review, and that too is sadly missing.

It’s worth noting that SmartWorld can be installed if you find the app online, but then users have to download and sideload an APK that can damage the device. Then FM radio is missing in favor of Verizon, which wants owners to use its own music services. While this isn’t a huge deal, it could be a concern for those who still enjoy using FM radio in an emergency or simply on their Android smartphone.
So far at Verizon we’re still seeing what the LG G4 has to offer, what’s missing, and we’ll report back as we find more. Verizon’s G4 is still a great device, with its powerful 6-core processor, beautiful leather materials on the back, and more. For whatever reason, Verizon found it necessary to remove a few key features; this is something worth knowing before you run out of potential buyers and sign a new 2 year contract and get the newest and greatest device from LG and Verizon Wireless.
Some of these may come back in future updates, but we’ll have to wait and see. Of course, you can go for it and get a free 32GB micro SD card and an extra 3,000mAh battery from LG. promotional websiteand free accessories ship in 4-6 weeks. Any other Verizon LG G4 complaints?
