Our smartphones are constantly sending us notifications for everything. It is not complicated as almost all apps like Facebook, WhatsApp, Gmail, Le Monde and so on can send us notifications. even our games send us warnings when a task is finished or you haven’t played for a long time.

And you can quickly drown in all these notifications, get an alert every 2 minutes and get dozens of notifications in the bar. And because of all these notifications, although we’ve covered how to save important notifications here, you might miss the really important ones.

That’s why we decided to make this little tutorial on how to manage Android notifications so you don’t get overwhelmed. This will allow you to gain peace of mind and not be disturbed in vain.

Manage notifications by status

The first and easiest thing to do is to disable notifications you don’t need. There are two ways to do this directly in the application in question (most of the time). you can manage notifications in settings). Either in Android settings and completely ban notifications from certain apps.

From Android Marshmallow it goes like this:

  • go to settings
  • Then in “Application”
  • Click on the app of your choice and then on “Notifications”.

  • Choose the notification mode you want for the app

For versions prior to Marshmallow, go to: “Notifications” tab in settings. There are fewer options for each app, but that’s often enough.

Mute notifications for a specific time

A much more radical solution, if you don’t want to be bothered by notifications for a certain period of time, enable it “Do Not Disturb” mode. This mode is activated in different ways depending on the manufacturer, for example Samsung has a “Do not disturb” tab in settings and quick accesses. But in most cases here is how to enable it in Android Marshmallow:

  • go to settings
  • Tap on “Sound & notifications”
  • Then “Do not disturb”

  • From there you will be able to set it automatically or not.

  • Allow exceptions when this mod is enabled (better to allow alarms if you turn them on at night)

For those still on Android Lollipop or lower, you can follow the same procedure but activate it directly by pressing the volume keys. You then have three options: all, priority, none. “Everything” option, you will logically get all notifications, priority only alarms and exceptions you define and lastly “none”, you won’t get any notifications, not even alarms.
